De La Cruz 20 60 Milestone

WEB De La Cruz Joins Exclusive 2060 Club with 60th Steal of 24

De La Cruz 20-60 Milestone

Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds has joined an exclusive group by stealing his 60th base of the year, becoming the fifth player since 1901 to reach 20 home runs and 60 stolen bases in a season.

De La Cruz reached the milestone when he swiped third base in the fifth inning of the Reds' 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old De La Cruz is the first Reds player to reach the 20-60 club since Joe Morgan did it in 1976.

Elite 20-60 List

The elite 20-60 list includes only four other players who have achieved both 20 home runs and 60 stolen bases in a season since 1901:

  • Barry Bonds (7 seasons)
  • Alex Rodriguez (2 seasons)
  • Alfonso Soriano (1 season)
  • Joe Morgan (1 season)
  • Elly De La Cruz (1 season)

De La Cruz is the youngest player to reach the 20-60 club since A-Rod did it at the age of 25 in 1998.

De La Cruz's Milestone Steal

De La Cruz's milestone steal came on a 1-2 count against Marlins pitcher Huascar Ynoa. He took a big lead off second base and broke for third as Ynoa went into his windup. Ynoa's throw to third was late and offline, and De La Cruz slid in safely.

De La Cruz's 60th steal of the season is the most by a Reds player since Eric Davis stole 62 bases in 1986.

Conclusion

Elly De La Cruz's 60th stolen base of the season is a remarkable achievement. He is one of the most exciting young players in baseball, and he is on pace to have a breakout season in 2023.
